Highlights

Howell became a village in 1863 but had residents since 1834. One of the first industries was a saw mill built in 1836 and used water power from Thompson Lake (named after the builder of the mill, Moses Thompson).  In the same year, William McPherson came from Scotland with his family and founded a blacksmith's. He was to become one of the wealthiest and most respected members of the community. Howell has several annual festivals including a Balloonfest, Melon Festival and winter Festival of Lights.
